Its been a while...

I sit here at 12 am alone in my living room watching quality cable programming and I find myself in awe of myself. Strange, I know but so much of what has come to define me as of late, itsnt even physically a part of me.

I remembered something today. Something that I had been too tired and frustrated to even try to remember. I am pretty. Yes, for the first time in 2 years I looked in the mirror and smiled. Even big, even, exhausted, even stretched so far...Iam still Rachel. Rachel is still beautiful.

As a stay at home mom of two who also moonlights 10 hours a week as preschool teacher extroidinairre to 10 4 year olds it is hard to find a piece of wardrobe unstained, without hole, in the right size, and without an eleastic waist band.

I place so much energy into making my girls look nice and dress cute that somewhere in the process I turned into a frump-a-lump. BUT NOT TODAY.

And not from here on out!
Granted, some lazy days at home do call for sweats in unbrushed hair in a ponytail with no makeup and barefoot but--I remembered today that I AM PRETTY! And Pretty deserves attention.

Cheers to trying again!

Crossing an emotional valley...

Life...life...life
Sometimes it would be so much simplier if God could just 'beam me up'. I have had so many minor frustrations as of late that everything has started to feel MAJOR rather than minor.
First, our home has been on the market for 5 weeks now and has had only 1 viewing--that couple actually wanted something more rural ao nothing came of it. this is such a huge frustration because of the immense amount of work I have to invest in keeping the house 'show ready' with 2 children and 3 dogs. Praise God that our contingent offer was accepted for another 30 days but there is no certainty that the market will turn in our favor within the next time allowance either. I would feel better if some people would just come look--and give some feed back! Is it the school district? the neighborhood? The price? or is it just a bad time in the market! Grrrrrr
I started a part-time job which is such a blessing and really not bad stress but at the same time it requires my attention and time--which I dont always feel like I have to give with everything else that has been going on.
I also just found out that I have to get a mamogram and an ultrasound for a lump in my right breast. Not something you want to be thinking about when you are 28.
Money has been trying at best lately. Jason was sick for 3 months. The three of us girls all had to go to doctor. Combine copays with meds and the 15% for Jason's 3 procedures and my head is ready to explode!
I just keep singing..
Jehovah Jireh--you grace is sufficient for me for me for me
Jehovah Jireh, my provider--your grace is sufficient for me.
My God will supply all my needs according to his wishes in Glory...
Jehovah Jireh my provider--his grace is sufficient for me...

I lean on Him and maintain faith all will be well....sometimes are just harder than others
pray for our house to sell to relieve some of the financial pressure and also for health for our family.
Love you all.

Life Changing Decision

Jason and I have been toying with the idea of selling our home for about six months now. There are so many pros...but also cons.
We love our neighbors, we have invested ALOT of money into this home to get it just the way we want it, and did I mention that we love our neighbors?
However, Reese will be headed to school in 2 years and as of now we are in Waco ISD. Not somewhere I would choose to send her. They are builing the new University High campus at the end of my street! We had decided to home school her for 2 years and stay here...but I came to a place where I felt like it sure would be nice to send her to school in the mornings and be done with it (well sort of).
Also we have a big lump of equity in our home. I wont give details here but lets just say that selling would get us credit debt free in 2 years and total debt free in 10. That sounds awfully good to me.
We have wanted land for sometimes now as well...
So Needless to say--
We listed our home yesterday and are putting in a contingent offer on another home with 5 acres early next week in China Spring ISD.
God has really led this decision and has had His hand in the whole process.
We ask for prayers during this time of waiting for our family. We ask for prayers of an easy-stress free process.
God gave me 2 passages to meditate on during this process. One to reassure me it was the right decision and another to remind me to stay patient (a real problem for me)
Jeremiah 23--his land purchase (yeah seriously God led me right to it, a great story)
And the story of Moses and his journey to the promised land flowing with milk and honey
Love you all!

I AM THE COUPON MOMMA

I go in with a plan.
We are a one income family with 2 small children and one BIG appetite. I first sit down and plan every meal for a 2 week period (that is our pay period) and I only shop twice a month.
First comes the meal plan.
I start by listing day of the week and the date for that day. I am also sure to note any special ocassions like going out of town, hosting someone for dinner or eating over at someones house. Then I go through my pantry and see what I have that I can make into a meal for those 2 weeks. Usually I can scrounge up 3-4 meals this way...leaving me with 10 dinners instead of 14. I plan for leftover lunches and cheap lunches for me and the girls. Then I go through the HEB ad.
I look at the...
combo locos
meal deals
sale items etc.

[ps. I usually get my sodas at Brookshires because they more than usually run the 4 for $10 deal]

I can usually fill in a few meals from the ad and then comes the fun part--THE COUPON BOOK!

I have a 3 ring binder full of baseball card protectors. In those protectors I have pages upon glorious pages of manufacturer coupons. I get them from the Sunday paper, couponmom and coolsavings. [if anyone knows of any other good sites please let me know] I spend about 30 minutes a week keeping this book stocked and current (removing expired coupons and putting in my new ones by category for easier meal planning).
I usually get the rest of my meals with at least 1 coupon item--sometimes more.

Now this does take a fair amount of work and tons of planning, but I am a stay at home mom and think of it as my full time job to run the family business--ie. cooking, stocking, cleaning, shopping, planning etc.
If you still arent a believer I will share this weeks shopping episode with you in as much detail as i can bare to type out.

MY MEAL PLAN/MENU
Fri 26: breakfast--cereal, fruit and eggs dinner-stacked burrito pie
Sat 27: breakfast--cereal fruit and eggs hotdog neighborhood lunch and bratwurts and left overs for dinner
Sun 28: breakfast--cereal fruit and eggs lunch with granma and chopped brisket dinner
Mon 29: breakfast--cereal and eggs lunchables for lunch sloppy joes and green beans for dinner
Tues 30: cereal and eggs lunchables for lunch Burritos with chips and salsa for dinner
wed 1: cereal and waffles lunchables for lunch pepperoni crock pot chicken for dinner
Thurs 2: cereal and waffles lunchables for lunch salmon with peas and suddenly salad for dinner
Fri 3: out of town
Sat4 : out of town
Sun 5 : out of town
Mon 6: cereal and or jelly toast lunchables for lunch Chicken and rice with cream of mushroom for dinner
Tues 7: cereal and eggs for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch spaghetti and rolls for dinner
Wed8: left overs for dinner and breakfast of usual

Ok...just a brief list of what my family manages to intake. My 3 year old alone eats about 3 snacks a day plus juice and then my 1 year old gets 3 snacks + formula (which isnt cheap) AND juice as well...but I just left HEB with 2 weeks worth of food, formula, cleaning supplies, paper towels, TP, laundry detergent, shampoo, a take home deli dinner --I mean EVERYTHING (96 total items) and only a $201 bill--in this economy I MUST be on to something.

I also got 5X point with a special coupon via email! WHOHOO!

I redeemed a total of 29 coupons and saved a whopping total of $41 in just coupons. That doesnt count the sale items. Some of the coupons were like $1 off 3 boxes of general mills cereal. Once I got to HEB I also found $1 off lucky charms (which is general mills) as an instore coupon--neither had restictions so I was actually able to combine the offers. I find deals like that alot of times,
HEB does not always advertise all of those yellow in store coupons so you have to be sure to pay attention to them once you are in the store.

I will post pics of coupon book soon...it is a true inspiration. I, however, cannot take full credit for the amazing idea.
I once saw a woman with 3 children and a hubby at walmart (not the best store to coupon shop at) with such a book and it was all I could do to stop from tripping over my bottom lip cause my jaw was dragging the floor. I was so impressed that I actually approached her and asked her to show me...and the rest my dears

For the Birds

Soooooo...
This week I have had a creative urge and I have filled it with...MAKING BIRDHOUSES! I love it sooo very much. Not only are they cute, once they are done I get to watch the birds live in them....it is like a double whammy for me.
I have made a few this week that I really just adore and I had to share them with the blogging world.
For your enjoyment--
Rachel's Birdhouse Creations!
This is a quick view of the front of my shed which I refer to as bird manor. I made all the houses pictured here.
This 'old lady in shoe' birdhouse is my newest creation and I must say my all time fav.
