Birthday cake for my mother-in-law--she loves to sew teacher at school whose preschool class is the green frogs I loved making these!

Its been a while...

I sit here at 12 am alone in my living room watching quality cable programming and I find myself in awe of myself. Strange, I know but so much of what has come to define me as of late, itsnt even physically a part of me. I remembered something today. Something that I had been too tired and frustrated to even try to remember. I am pretty. Yes, for the first time in 2 years I looked in the mirror and smiled. Even big, even, exhausted, even stretched so far...Iam still Rachel. Rachel is still beautiful. As a stay at home mom of two who also moonlights 10 hours a week as preschool teacher extroidinairre to 10 4 year olds it is hard to find a piece of wardrobe unstained, without hole, in the right size, and without an eleastic waist band. I place so much energy into making my girls look nice and dress cute that somewhere in the process I turned into a frump-a-lump. BUT NOT TODAY. And not from here on out! Granted, some lazy days at home do call for sweats in unbrushed hair in a ponyt

Crossing an emotional valley...

Life...life...life Sometimes it would be so much simplier if God could just 'beam me up'. I have had so many minor frustrations as of late that everything has started to feel MAJOR rather than minor. First, our home has been on the market for 5 weeks now and has had only 1 viewing--that couple actually wanted something more rural ao nothing came of it. this is such a huge frustration because of the immense amount of work I have to invest in keeping the house 'show ready' with 2 children and 3 dogs. Praise God that our contingent offer was accepted for another 30 days but there is no certainty that the market will turn in our favor within the next time allowance either. I would feel better if some people would just come look--and give some feed back! Is it the school district? the neighborhood? The price? or is it just a bad time in the market! Grrrrrr I started a part-time job which is such a blessing and really not bad stress but at the same time it requires my a

Life Changing Decision

Jason and I have been toying with the idea of selling our home for about six months now. There are so many pros...but also cons. We love our neighbors, we have invested ALOT of money into this home to get it just the way we want it, and did I mention that we love our neighbors? However, Reese will be headed to school in 2 years and as of now we are in Waco ISD. Not somewhere I would choose to send her. They are builing the new University High campus at the end of my street! We had decided to home school her for 2 years and stay here...but I came to a place where I felt like it sure would be nice to send her to school in the mornings and be done with it (well sort of). Also we have a big lump of equity in our home. I wont give details here but lets just say that selling would get us credit debt free in 2 years and total debt free in 10. That sounds awfully good to me. We have wanted land for sometimes now as well... So Needless to say-- We listed our home yesterday and are putting

Raeleigh's first birthday Luau

Image
Celebrated June 13 with a swim party. There were 11 kids including my own. Everyone had a blast. Raeleigh had a custome cake made for her by Coffey Custome Cakes--it was a sandcastle. Lara Jane did a great job! We also served watermelon flavored sherbert and drinks...lots and lots of drinks--it was very hot. The kiddos had 3 swim pools. One 1 ring, the big one, another wading pool plus one at the bottom of the playground slide. A crazy flower sprinkle sat atop the playground keeping everything misted and cool. And for the older kiddos, a slip n slide sat in the sun. PS. Raeleigh started walking the day of her party! And on a less important note, Jason threw me in the stinkin pool! At least I got to cool off! hehe

I AM THE COUPON MOMMA

I go in with a plan. We are a one income family with 2 small children and one BIG appetite. I first sit down and plan every meal for a 2 week period (that is our pay period) and I only shop twice a month. First comes the meal plan. I start by listing day of the week and the date for that day. I am also sure to note any special ocassions like going out of town, hosting someone for dinner or eating over at someones house. Then I go through my pantry and see what I have that I can make into a meal for those 2 weeks. Usually I can scrounge up 3-4 meals this way...leaving me with 10 dinners instead of 14. I plan for leftover lunches and cheap lunches for me and the girls. Then I go through the HEB ad. I look at the... combo locos meal deals sale items etc. [ps. I usually get my sodas at Brookshires because they more than usually run the 4 for $10 deal] I can usually fill in a few meals from the ad and then comes the fun part--THE COUPON BOOK! I have a 3 ring binder full of baseball card pro
