Growing our Heritage: In Search of a Full Quiver Month 3

Image
Wow!  Here we are, PAST the 3 month mark.  I feel as if we may have found our new rhythm of life.  Behaviors have calmed down, and all the pieces are beginning to blend together seamlessly.  We still have hard days, but their frequency continues to decrease.  If I'm honest, I can already feel the pull to do this all over AGAIN!  Yes, it is hard.  Yes, it is messy. Yes, it is stressful and conflict is inevitable.  But the benefits are so very great.  I have watched a child simply transform in front of my eyes in a very short 3 months.  I can think of no greater way to impact society, and The Kingdom, than to take a helpless/hopeless child and give them hope, love and a possibility for a future. We covet your prayers as there is still much to learn and so much ground to cover; but I have faith that all of the tears, time, effort, heart-break, frustration and exhaustion will pay off in the end. ALOT has changed for all of us th...

Open Book: God is Good and Big enough to release me

I am and always have been an open book--transparent to my core, and at times, to a fault.  Now is no exception.  I have through all of my soul searching and healing always made it clear that I am NOT perfect and I DO NOT have it all figured out.  That is still the case.  I am not writing this to toot my own horn--On the contrary, I am wanting to give God the glory for two mind-blowingly amazing victories that He has blessed me with. With that said, I will just shamelessly dive right in.  I struggle with depression, PTSD, pain and so many more 'conditions' that I just don't even have the energy or desire to list them all.  I do believe that most of these ailments have been spiritual warfare and attacks due to my desire for light and truth to shine into me and my life.  If you know my testimony, you know what all I am referring to. I have been on antidepressants off and on for 7 years, and my most recent stint on them has lasted a bit over 5...

HCG VCLD...hanging in there

So today was a pretty ok day.  Breakfast is ever a difficult time for me.  Coffee is more than enough to fill me up until lunch.  At lunch I ate left over salad from NEWKS last night and a few bites of a left over hot pocket from one of my kids.  OK, so NO the hotpocket is not on the diet but I am giving myself a bit of grace.  Just being more AWARE of what I am putting into my mouth is a huge step for me.  I also ate a snack of crackers today--ALSO not on protocol but hey...my calories are still low.   For dinner I went to Heitmiller Steak house with my examiner.com spoils and had a steak, mushrooms and a few sweet potato fries.  I was good and DID NOT get soda (diet or otherwise).  I ordered tea but it was disgusting so I opted for a cuppa joe. Then I walked for an hour this evening.  I am finding that allowing myself a few small cheats during the day is working wonders for my morale.  I know die-hard HCGers would chastise m...

Book review by Joy-Jordan Lake

Why Did This Happen to Me, Aunt Lou is a valuable book. Not only is it charmingly illustrated, but it also gently and clearly helps children confront the incredibly difficult issues of free will and theodicy (why bad things can happen to innocent people) and where God might be in the suffering. These are tough topics even for adults to handle in healthy ways, but in this rare book, the author Rachel Hall Stolle writes with compassion and empathy, leading children to understand that most crucial of points, that when bad things happen in their world, God is with them in their pain. Dr. Joy Jordan-Lake is a professor and the author of five books, the latest of which is a novel, Blue Hole Back Home. http://www.joyjordanlake.com/30/
