Today I visited with the entire fourth grade class of South Marshall Elementary school.   I made the connection via an old mascoting sponsor and my sister’s coach’s wife—Amy Purifoy.   It was a great day.   I was asked to motivate the students to write.   I really struggled with my angle for weeks, but when Jason and I took our 10 th anniversary getaway God granted me a great topic:   Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me…=FALSE!!!! Upon arriving and setting up this morning, Mrs. Purifoy introduced me to the kids and I started things off right—I immediately gave the children sugar.   Mind you, my presentation was at 8:30—first thing Monday morning.   So after passing around the bucket of gum, and trashcan for their papers I asked the kids to write down 5 words to describe their gum to someone who had never chewed gum, didn’t know what it was and had never even heard of it.   They did great.   I got some really go...

What a great gift to add to this year's Easter basket! Tell Me About Easter, Aunt Lou uses beautiful language and illustrations to explain the true meaning of Easter to curious children. As a person who was lucky enough to know Aunt Lou, I can say Mrs. Stolle does a wonderful job telling the story just as she would have. On October the 13th of 2010, I had the most intimidating, amazing day of my life. I had been invited, by the school counselor, to be a guest motivation speaker on senior day at Shoemaker High School in Killeen, Texas. It was career day for these kids, and I was asked to share my story in a motivational way. This was something I had dreamed of since I started my journey of self-discovery and healing about 5 years ago, but I never thought I would truly have the strength and courage to do it. And I still don’t. It is only by the grace of God that I was able to share what I am about to share with you with these 300+ teenage strangers. I arrived at Shoemaker about 20 minutes early. Q.Where are you from? A. I was born in a small East Texas town called Atlanta. My family relocated to the tiny town of Gray, Texas when I was four years old. Gray is such a small community that it does not even have its own schools or post office for that matter. I commuted a 50 mile round trip each day to attend school in nearby historic Jefferson, Texas. Jefferson was the riverport to the southwest and today is known of as the bed and breakfast capital of Texas. It is located on Big Cypress Bayou in the Cypress Valley of Northeast Texas. It is the County seat for Marion county. Named for Francis Marion, a Revolutionary War patriot who was known as the "Swamp Fox".
